Does Nortantis Use AI?
I received a question via email from someone wanting to know if Nortantis uses AI. Since Amazon requires you to disclose whether images in your published books use AI, this is an important question to answer.
The short answer is no, Nortantis is not AI, nor does it use AI in its code. It generates landmasses using a tectonic plate simulator, and it creates random text using noun-verb pairs, noun-adjective pairs, and person and place names I extracted from books using a tool that isn't part of the project (and does not use LLMs). The person and place names are fed into an N-gram generator, but that is a very simple model, and I don't think it qualifies as AI.
Nortantis does, however, come with AI-generated images for some of the decorations, namely these:
Additionally, if you use an art pack, that might use AI. The bonus art pack we released uses AI.
In summary, if you don’t want to use AI in your map, avoid the compasses, ships, and “other” decorations that come with Nortantis, and make sure any art pack you use was not created using AI.
